MANAGING BEHAVIOR IN SPORT

Nicky Fuller, who many of you know from her tutoring for Sports Coach UK has written a brand new workshop which has been officially recognised by Sports Coach UK - The workshop is titled 'Managing Behaviour In Sport' and she has kindly agreed to tutor this for us. I have set up 2 dates for this workshop, as follows:-

Date: Monday 27th October 2008

Venue: Nechells Community Centre

Time: 6.30pm to 9.30pm

Cost: £25.00 to general public / £15.00 to BCC Staff employed in the

'sport & leisure sector', coach pool & cscs coaches.

Date: Tuesday 20th January 2009

Venue: House of Sport, 300 Broad Street, Birmingham

Time: 10.00am to 1.00pm

Cost: £20.00 to general public / £10.00 to BCC Staff employed in the

'sport & leisure sector', coach pool & cscs coaches.

Please find below details regarding this workshop:-

This workshop aims to increase awareness of the behaviour of young people, and the impact of the coach on behaviour of others.

The intention is to help coaches to create a supportive coaching environment that will promote positive behaviour and find appropriate solutions

to deal with unwanted and challenging behaviour. The content will help coaches who work with a cross section of young people that display a variety

of behaviours commonly found in a range of communities of young people. It is not intended to help coaches work and deal with extreme behaviours,

such as violent conduct, nor work with specific groups such as groups of disaffected youth. The skills, knowledge and experience required to deal with

extreme behaviours or groups with specific social and emotional needs requires more training and support than can be covered in this workshop.

The workshop intends to help coaches better understand why challenging behaviour occurs and identify a range of practical ideas to deal with unwanted

behaviour in sport and coaching environments. Helping coaches to recognise what creates a positive coaching environment and actions that will

encourage acceptable behaviour is key to the outcomes of this workshop. The workshop is primarily designed for coaches who will work with young

people and the scenarios, DVD footage and role plays are set in the context of working with children and young people. Some of the materials may

support coaches working with adults but it is not a focus.

Places are limited on these workshops and will be offered on a 'first come' basis. These workshops will be advertised in our new 'Training For Sport'

brochure which is just being compiled and will be sent out towards the end of August.

In the meantime, if you would like to attend this training or know anyone who would like to attend, please let me know.

Kind regards

Sue

Some players have been parking their cars at Stockland Green and travelling to other venues.
