Are you interesting in an U19 League?  If so, read on

Following national and regional consultation, there appears to be a demand for competitions for players aged 16-19. England Netball is exploring the possibility of reinstating a National U19 competition.

The Competition Technical Support Group [TSG] of the West Midlands Regional Board is therefore looking at creating an U19 league in addition to the tournament usually held each year.  The initial proposal is for the league to be run approximately once a month between September and December with teams playing 2 games each match day at a central venue. It is possible that there could be more than one central venue. The tournament date would probably be moved to sometime after Easter.

The TSG would be really pleased to receive expressions of interest, or any comments, by 18th March 2013 from those clubs who might want to put in a team to play in an U19 league from September 2013. This would not mean committing to something, just that you might be interested.  The expressions of interest will enable the committee to look at the viability of such a league as well as the format/structure/timings/venue[s].

We look forward to a very positive response from you eager Netballers.

With regards,

Ann O’Rourke [TSG Chair]
Kemi Okunnu [TSG member]

Interested in an Over 40s League?  Is so, read on

At the Regional Planning Day in November, a suggestion was made about a competition for Over 40s. There are a number of competition opportunities for junior club players but nothing for the more mature player. Many of these ladies are playing regularly in their club teams but might enjoy the chance to play occasionally in an Over 40s competition.

The Competition Technical Support Group [TSG] of the West Midlands Regional Board is therefore looking at holding an Over 40s tournament in the summer of 2013. This would not be a Back To Netball competition as this group is catered for separately. The proposal is that the tournament need not be club based but could be groups of Over 40 players who come together on the day to play. However, they must all be affiliated and wear a team kit, such as a white shirt and black skirt.

The TSG would be really pleased to receive expressions of interest, or any comments, by 18th March 2013 from those clubs/friends who might want to put in a team to play such a tournament this summer. This would not be committing to something, just showing an interest.

The expressions of interest will enable the committee to look at the viability of such a tournament as well as possible venues etc.
We look forward to a very positive response from you eager Netballers.

With regards,

Ann O’Rourke [TSG Chair]
Julie Gibson [TSG memb

Back to Netball Project Win National Lottery Best Sports Project 2012

England Netball's Back to Netball initiative has won the National Lottery Award in the Best Sports Project category. Over 500 schemes were nominated.

The Awards are an annual search to find the UK’s favourite Lottery-funded projects, and they recognise and celebrate the difference that Lottery-funded projects make to communities across the UK.  Back to Netball has been a fantastic success and we have welcomed over 22,000 women back into our wonderful game since it’s national implementation in 2010.  Since the start of the Active Women project, 4,752 women from deprived areas and/or caring for children U16 have come Back to Netball.  There are countless case studies that highlight the impact that Back to Netball has had on the lives of local women including overcoming adversity, weight loss, reuniting communities after the riots and mentoring young people through qualifications that has led to longer term employment.
